Chinese medicine has a long history. The birth of medical science began when Shennong tasted hundreds of herbs; During the reign of Emperor Yao, it also made great progress.
In ancient times, there was a lot of rain, but the river was silted up by silt, resulting in floods year after year. Farmland was flooded, houses were washed down and people were homeless. It is said that one summer, due to the long drought and no rain, the weather was hot, people became dizzy and feverish, scanty dark urine, and countless people fell ill and died. Qingdu's mother also fell ill. It fell to Qingdu to cook, cut firewood and herd goats. That day, Qingdu went to the hillside to herd sheep, and suddenly found that several goats were also suffering from diarrhea. Qingdu spent several days in anxiety. Suddenly, she found that the goats with diarrhea were getting better. After careful observation, she found that the sick sheep had eaten chicken feet grass and purslane. Qingdu collected some calathodes oxycarpa and purslane and cooked them for his mother. After drinking for two days, my mother's condition gradually improved. After drinking for another two days, my mother recovered. Qingdu told the villagers about this method and led them to go up the mountain to collect herbs, so as to identify the two kinds of medicinal materials: calathodes oxycarpa and purslane. The news spread quickly. Qingdu also told villagers to stop drinking water from ditches and ponds. Drinking clean water from rivers or wells would prevent them from getting sick, and a plague would gradually subside.
It is said that this has had a significant impact on the development of artificial herbal medicine in later generations. At present, Huai'an still retains the industry of traditional Chinese medicine planting, and is also the largest base of traditional Chinese medicine planting in Jiangsu, known as the hometown of traditional Chinese medicine.
